# Build

`build` builds the runtime image described by the lifecycle config. The build strategy comes from `common.launch_type` in `agentkit.yaml`: `local` builds with local Docker, `cloud` builds in the cloud, and `hybrid` builds locally before pushing to the cloud container registry.

## build

After a successful build, the CLI writes image id, image URL, build timestamp, or cloud build artifact state back to `agentkit.yaml`. If no Dockerfile exists, the CLI generates a default Dockerfile from the language, entry point, dependency file, and cloud provider.
