# Get an artifact version

> Read artifact content by version number; returns 404 when it does not exist

Use the version number returned when saving the artifact, or retrieve the version list first. Success returns that version as a `Part`; a missing artifact or version returns `404`

Content can appear in `text` or `inlineData`. Retrieve its URI, MIME type, and custom metadata separately with [Get artifact version metadata](/productions/api-reference/preview/en/harness-runtime/get-artifact-metadata)
