After installing VeADK Go, you can create, run, and package agents in Go projects. New projects should use the V2 module path by default. Existing V1 projects can stay on the V1 maintenance line.

Prerequisites

  • Go 1.26.5 or later. This requirement comes from the current mainline go.mod.
  • A model and API Key are required when you call a model. Installing the module itself does not require model credentials.
  • To use V2 Preview capabilities, you need access to the veadk-go main branch or a pinned commit.

Install V2 for New Projects

Initialize a Go module in your project directory:
The current Preview documentation targets the V2 mainline. If there is no stable V2 tag yet, install with @main or a pinned commit:
Use V2 import paths in your code:
V2 contains breaking changes required by ADK v2 and A2A v2. After a stable V2 tag is released, production projects should pin a validated version instead of depending on @main.

Install V1 for Existing Projects

If your project still uses ADK v1, install a V1 maintenance release:
V1 import paths do not include /v2:
The V1 maintenance branch is release/v1. To inspect V1 examples or fixes, switch to that branch:

Configure the Model

VeADK Go reads .env and config.yaml from the current working directory. .env does not override existing environment variables. Keys in config.yaml are converted to environment variable names and also do not override existing environment variables. As a result, exported environment variables have higher priority than file-based configuration. Create config.yaml in your project root:
Provide the API Key through an environment variable:
You can also configure the model entirely with environment variables:
Do not commit real API Keys, AK/SK pairs, or tokens. Running examples sends prompts to the selected model service and may incur model usage charges.

Verify from Source

To verify V2 capabilities or local changes, clone the source repository:
In the source repository, you can run public examples or tests. For first verification, start with examples that do not require an external model, such as the basic Runner example. Examples that call a model require model credentials first.
